Healthy Diet for June 28 – Tapas on Your Table

Looking for a relaxing eating adventure that can be as flavorful as it is nutritious? Try tapas!

Spanish tapas likely originated as street food. Served cold or hot, today these little plates of food are made with a limitless variety of high-quality ingredients—mostly without much effort, but with plenty of flavor and an array of nutrient-rich foods.

With tapas you can explore and savor many flavors easily.

For casual summer entertaining, have a tapas party at home.

  • Prepare tapas ahead—or ask each guest to bring one: perhaps garlic broiled shrimp, herbed bread or focaccia, roasted almonds, marinated olives and mushrooms, proscuitto wrapped around salmon or asparagus, or potato tapas. (See February 4 and March 16.)
  • Serve tapas one at a time. Offer wine, fruit juice, or bottled water to go with them.
  • Eat until you’re satisfied, not until you’re overfull.
  • Have a good time, as the Spanish do, as you slowly enjoy food and friends!
