Healthy Diet for December 31 – Time to Reflect, Look Ahead, Celebrate

When the clock strikes midnight, how will you ring in the New Year? Will you reflect back on how you achieved your fitness goals over the past twelve months? Will you rethink and update next year’s approach to healthful eating and active living?

The smart approach: Do both. Review what you’ve learned this past year to strategize for the coming one.

Celebrate with healthful New Year food folklore:

  • Enjoy a Cuban tradition: twelve grapes eaten as the clock strikes midnight with one wish for each month of the year (Make twelve promises for fitness!)
  • Add Southern tradition to your midnight buffet: Hoppin’ John (black-eyed peas cooked with ham and seasonings, and served with cooked rice) as a symbol of good luck.
  • Try a fishy Polish and German tradition: herring at midnight for good luck.

Wishing you a Happy, Healthy New Year!
