Healthy Diet for November 14 – Video Tonight?

Busy schedule mean there’s no time for the gym? No fitness center nearby or cost too much? Prefer working out on your own? You still can it in workouts. Borrow, buy, or rent an exercise video; work out on your schedule, in the privacy of your home.

Stores stock dozens of exercise videotapes. Picking the right one for you is like finding the right workout class. Here are four things to look for. It should:

  1. Feature a certified instructor who inspires you, not just a celebrity.
  2. Include adequate warm-up and cool-down activities.
  3. Match your abilities so you don’t get frustrated.
  4. Provide alternative moves that may be easier.

Before you buy any workout video, read its package to see if it might require any special equipment, such as steps, stretch rope, weights.

Now—ready, set, start!

  • Make space. Move small furniture and “stuff” so you have enough room to move.
  • Watch the videotape first. Once you’ve seen the motions and their patterns, rewind the tape and work out.
  • Do it at your pace. Modify the moves if they’re too intense for you. Gradually pick up your pace as you use the videotape again and again.
